Digital X-Ray On-Site
Immediate, high-resolution digital imaging for fast and accurate diagnosis - right in our office.
Overview
Accurate diagnosis of foot and ankle conditions often requires high-quality imaging, and having that imaging available on-site is a significant advantage for both the patient and the treating physician. Vertex Podiatry is equipped with state-of-the-art digital X-ray technology that produces high-resolution images instantly - no waiting for an external radiology appointment, no delays in diagnosis, and no additional travel. Weight-bearing X-rays - taken while you stand on the affected foot - are especially important for evaluating foot and ankle conditions, as they reveal the true functional alignment of bones and joints under load. Dr. Golan interprets your imaging immediately during your appointment, allowing same-visit diagnosis and treatment planning. Digital X-ray also uses significantly less radiation than traditional film-based systems.
Benefits
- Immediate results - images available within seconds of acquisition
- Weight-bearing views reveal true functional alignment, impossible to replicate lying down
- No separate radiology referral or scheduling delay
- Lower radiation exposure compared to traditional film X-ray
- High-resolution digital images allow precise measurement and planning
- Same-visit diagnosis and treatment initiation
- Essential for fracture evaluation, surgical planning, and deformity assessment
What to Expect
X-rays are taken quickly and comfortably in our imaging suite. You will be positioned standing (for weight-bearing views) or seated depending on what is being evaluated. Multiple views of the foot or ankle are typically obtained for a complete assessment. There is no preparation required and no discomfort associated with digital X-ray. Dr. Golan will review the images with you immediately during your appointment, explaining the findings and how they inform your treatment plan. Images are stored digitally and available for comparison at future visits.
Who Is a Candidate?
Digital X-ray is appropriate for evaluation of suspected fractures, stress fractures, bone deformities (bunions, hammertoes, flatfoot), arthritis, foreign bodies, heel spurs, and pre-operative or post-operative assessment. It is a routine part of most new patient evaluations at Vertex Podiatry.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is X-ray radiation safe?
Digital X-ray uses very low doses of radiation - significantly less than traditional film systems. A foot X-ray delivers a radiation dose comparable to a few hours of normal background environmental radiation. The diagnostic benefit far outweighs the minimal risk.
Why does my doctor take X-rays while I'm standing?
Weight-bearing X-rays are the gold standard for foot and ankle imaging because they show how bones and joints align under the forces of your body weight - the conditions under which your symptoms actually occur. Non-weight-bearing X-rays can miss deformities that only appear when you stand.
Will I need additional imaging like an MRI or CT scan?
X-ray is the first-line imaging for most foot and ankle problems. If soft tissue injuries (tendons, ligaments, cartilage) are suspected, or if fracture detail requires clarification, Dr. Golan may refer you for MRI or CT scan.
