Self-pay package

Ingrown Toenail Package

Complete ingrown toenail care for uninsured patients, led by a podiatric physician.

An ingrown toenail can make shoes, sleep and walking miserable. This package puts the visit, the procedure and the follow-up together so you know what the path looks like before you start.

Designed for uninsured patients paying out of pocket. Contact our team to discuss the package and plan your visit.

What the package includes

  1. 01

    Initial visit

Dr. Golan examines the toe, reviews your history and explains what he finds.

  2. 02

    Partial nail avulsion

The painful border of the nail is removed so the pressure on the skin is relieved.

  3. 03

    Matrixectomy, if clinically appropriate

When your assessment supports it, the nail root in that border is treated to reduce the chance of regrowth.

  4. 04

    Follow-up appointment

We check how the toe is healing and answer your questions about care.

Temporary removal or matrix treatment?

These are two different goals. Your clinical assessment decides which one fits your toe.

Partial nail avulsion

Removes the offending piece of nail to relieve pressure on the skin. The nail can grow back and may become ingrown again.

Matrixectomy

Treats the nail root (matrix) along the border that was removed, to reduce regrowth of that portion of nail. It is done only if clinically appropriate.

You do not need to choose in advance. The decision is made after your examination, with you.

Recovery: what to expect

These instructions summarize our post-procedure handout. Follow the individual instructions Dr. Golan gives you, and contact our office with any concerns.

First 24 hours

  • Keep the bandage clean and dry. Replace it if it becomes wet or soiled.
  • Elevate your foot above heart level for the first 24 hours.
  • Limit physical activity for 48–72 hours.

Days 2–14

  • Begin daily wound care and change your bandage each day.
  • Light drainage or redness can be normal in the first few days. Call if redness or drainage increases.

Healing expectations

  • Initial healing usually occurs within 2–3 weeks. Full healing varies for each patient.
  • If matrixectomy was not performed, the removed portion of nail can grow back over the next several months.

Caring for the toe at home

  • Wash your hands before touching the area.
  • Change the bandage daily. If it is stuck, soften it with lukewarm water first.
  • Clean gently with mild soap and water, then pat dry.
  • Apply antibiotic ointment as directed and cover with a sterile bandage.
  • Come to your follow-up appointment even if the toe feels better.

Activity and footwear

  • Limit physical activity for 48–72 hours.
  • Walk and return to most normal activities as tolerated.
  • Wear open-toed or roomy shoes for comfort.
  • Avoid strenuous exercise until the area is comfortable.

Additional precautions

  • Do not pick, peel or cut the treated area.
  • Avoid soaking the foot in baths, pools or hot tubs until fully healed.

Pain control

  • Mild to moderate discomfort is expected.
  • You may use your usual over-the-counter pain medication if it is medically appropriate for you.

Call us promptly if you notice

  • Increasing redness or red streaks
  • Increased swelling, warmth or pus-like drainage
  • Fever of 100.4°F (38°C) or higher
  • Uncontrolled pain

If you have diabetes, poor circulation or numb feet, call early. If you feel seriously unwell, seek urgent medical care.
